Support Through Loss and Bereavement

Experiencing the death of someone close can be deeply confusing and emotionally overwhelming for a child or young person. Grief can affect every part of life — from emotions and behaviour to concentration, friendships, and a sense of security. It may appear immediately or emerge gradually, and it can change over time. Every child’s response is unique, and there is no single “right” way to grieve.

Our support for Loss and Bereavement is guided by the compassionate principles of Mosaic and Winston’s Wish, two leading organisations specialising in bereavement care for children and families. Their approaches emphasise honesty, reassurance, and the importance of giving children safe, age‑appropriate opportunities to express their feelings. Using these foundations, we aim to create a calm, nurturing environment where children can ask questions, share memories, and explore their emotions at a pace that feels comfortable for them.

To ensure children receive high‑quality, sensitive support, Mrs Paterson, who is Mosaic‑trained, is one of the staff members who delivers our bereavement intervention. Her specialist training enables her to guide children through their grief with understanding, structure, and compassion. Whether a child needs help making sense of what has happened, ongoing emotional support, or simply someone to listen, Mrs Paterson provides a steady and reassuring presence.

We also recognise that bereavement affects the whole family. Parents and carers may be coping with their own grief while trying to support their children, and they may need guidance, reassurance, or signposting. We are here to offer information, practical advice, and a listening ear whenever it is needed.

If you would like to discuss the support available or have concerns about a child who may be struggling with loss, please contact Mrs V. Jones, who can provide further information and help you access the right support
